Join The VMVLA Today
We are an officially recognized bar association under the Virginia State Bar's Conference of Local and Specialty Bar Associations, working to meet the needs of attorneys whose practices are not centered on the major urban areas of the state.
The Virginia Mountain/Valley Lawyers' Alliance is Virginia's fast-growing Special Bar Association with over 1400 Members. Membership for the 2024 CLE reporting years is currently $100 and includes access to all Zoom CLE presentations by the VMVLA at no additional cost.
Members may select from three divisions: Mountain/Valley Region (Circuits 10, 16, and 20-30, Virginia Associate (Flatlanders and Coastal Dwellers), and Virginia Attorneys Aboard (Attorneys with addresses of record outside the Commonwealth).

Mountain/Valley Region
The Mountain/Valley Region consists of Circuits 10, 16, and 20-30. Virginia-barred attorneys who have an address of record within the Mountain/Valley Region typically are solo-practice or small firm attorneys or practice in the public or NGO sectors. Even the “big” firms in the region are dwarfed by the megafirms in Virginia’s Urban Crescent. The VMVLA was founded to address the needs of the Mountain/Valley Region attorneys.
Virginia Associate
Virginia Associate membership is available to all Virginia-barred attorneys who live in the Flatlands or who are Coastal-Dwellers. While this region of the Commonwealth includes the Urban Crescent with its multinational firms, there are also many areas that have bars similar to the Mountain/Valley Region, where local practitioners in solo and small offices and government and NGO attorneys need access to the same services as the Mountain/Valley region. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the VMVLA was one of the few bar associations offering low-cost, high-quality CLE online, and many attorneys outside the region sought membership – so we created that Virginia Associate status. Virginia Associates have full membership in the VMVLA (but do have to put up with some good-natured ribbing about being flatlanders and coastal dwellers).
Virginia Attorneys Aboard
Early in its foray into online CLE, the VMVLA recognized that there are Virginia-barred attorneys who live outside the Commonwealth who need access to the same services as the solo attorneys in the Mountain/Valley region, especially access to Virginia-approved CLE. We are proud to have members in the VAA from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as more than a dozen foreign countries. VAA members are full members of the VMVLA, and we make every effort to offer programs at times that are compatible with local time zones.

The Virginia Mountain/Valley Lawyers' Alliance (VMVLA) is all about practicing law in the Mountain/Valley Region of Virginia (Circuits 10, 16, and 20-30) and working to meet the needs of attorneys and of the community. We also serve Virginia Attorneys Aboard, those with addresses of record outside the Commonwealth, and Virginia Associates -- flatlanders and coastal dwellers who have small practices similar to those of the Mountain/Valley Region.
We have been working towards transforming lives through the power of service and are supporting various charitable causes through VMVLA member donations and fundraising campaigns.
